A Weekend in the Beach and the Dessert

The next place I traveled to was Morocco, and it was easily one of the most unforgettable experiences of my entire study abroad semester. I participated in a three-day excursion that included camel rides across the Sahara Desert, ATVs through the sand dunes, and camping overnight in the desert. Everything about it felt surreal, from the endless golden sand to watching the sun set over the dunes. It was one of those experiences that almost did not feel real while it was happening. Beyond how beautiful it was, Morocco also opened my eyes to a completely different lifestyle, culture, and environment than what I had been experiencing in Florence.
The following weekend, I went back to Cinque Terre as part of a school-planned day trip, which was such a fun change of scenery. We got to enjoy the beach, walk through the colorful coastal towns, and eat fried seafood by the water. What made it even crazier was realizing how completely different my weekends were just one week apart. One weekend I was riding camels and camping in the Sahara Desert, and the next I was eating seafood on the Italian coast. Moments like this really show how amazing studying abroad is because you can experience such different places, cultures, and landscapes in such a short amount of time.
